truth round 2 - goal 1
Every 6.5 seconds someone in the U.S. dies from a tobacco related disease, so truth provides facts that allow teens to make informed decisions about tobacco use. We do this by not attacking smokers, but by pointing out the questionable practices of the tobacco industry.
WE LOVE SMOKERS. Heck, we love everybody. Our philosophy isn’t anti-smoker or pro-smoker. It’s about an industry manipulating their products, facts, and advertising to secure replacements for the customer they lose every 6.5 seconds worldwide. You know, because they die. Our only objective is to make sure every person gets to know the facts about tobacco. We’re a chop shop of information, stripping it down to the point where only the raw truth is left. We may have some fun with it, but we try not to add opinions or tell anyone what to do with the information. Teens are smart enough to make their own decisions about smoking, we just want to make sure teens are armed with all the right facts. So, does it work? Well, according to a bunch of data crunching experts, between 2000 and 2004, there were approximately 450,000 fewer smokers as a result of truth. And between 2000 and 2002, truth saved society between 1.9 and 5.4 billion dollars in medical costs. Those are huge numbers, but it’s still only a start. We have a long way to go. So even though the tobacco industry is hard at work, so are we.
